Had a fantastic stay! Kevin is the most gracious host you'll ever meet who pays attention to every detail. Stayed in the West Wing which is a beautifully decorated room with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and lovely ensuite bathroom. Bed was super comfortable and the nights are peaceful, so getting a restful sleep is easy! The West Wing has its own porch with a wonderful view of the bay. Breakfast was phenomenal, tasty and large portions. Lots to do and see in the surrounding area as well or a great stop if hiking the East Coast Trail. Would highly recommend a stay with Kevin at the Inn on Capelin Bay.

Kevin's inn is a fantastic B&B! My family enjoyed our stay so much that we would definitely go back if we are ever in the area again. Kevin was the best host we encountered on our month-long trip, and his breakfast was incredible (partridge berry pancakes are a must-try).
We stayed in the loft and enjoyed the privacy, especially since we were traveling with a baby. The wifi was quite weak, and there were some issues with water (the well had run dry by the last night of our stay), but Kevin did everything he could to make up for the problems.
You should definitely stay at the Inn of Capelin Bay!

*This is a long review, the conclusion is at the end*

There were two problems during our stay, but before I get to those, here are a couple things you should know first:

-Kevin is an exceptional host, and will go out of his way to ensure you have the best stay possible.
-Don't skip breakfast, and get the partridgeberry pancakes.
-Your room will be better cleaned than any chain hotel.

I mentioned two problems during our stay, both of which I'll elaborate on below. One was wifi, the other was to do with water.

1st) We were in the loft, where the signal for the wifi we were given was very weak. This was a bit annoying at times, but not detrimental. A fix would be to add a booster in or nearer the loft.

2nd) Kevin's property depends on an old well for water, which depends on rain. The well water was very low during our stay, and even ran out by our last night. Obviously, not having running water kinda sucks.

Q) So, what did Kevin do about the water?
A) Everything he could.

While there, I mentioned that my wife and I were going to do laundry in St. John's. Instead of just informing me about a nearer laundromat, Kevin insisted we use his machine (even though his water was low), even going as far as filling the machine with water to make sure our load would get done. When the water ran out, Kevin made sure there was another place we could shower, cleaned it, got new clean towels, and offered to drive us there. Kevin also provided a water cooler and all the drinking water we needed, ensuring we didn't go without. On the night the water ran out, I'm honestly not convinced Kevin slept. He stayed up well beyond us, talking to contractors or suppliers about water pumps, tanks, or pipes, and was constantly in and out trying to fix the problem; Then, in the morning, I think I saw the kitchen lights on before 6am, as Kevin prepped breakfast for us all.

*In short:
Kevin is clearly a well liked and important part of his community, and his hosting skills and friendliness make it clear why. You should stay at the Inn of Capelin Bay. The community is friendly and welcoming, the area is beautiful, the inn is comfortable and clean, and the breakfast is good enough to make you eat more than you should.

Thanks Kevin for a great experience! Though you're a long ways away from our home, Alyssa, Lydia, and I hope to have the chance to return some day!

This is a must stay location. We had the West Wing, which is kind of like a mini cabin, (with a small deck!) Reserving and check-in was a breeze, Kevin is a fantastic host- we stayed two nights, with another couple of friends that were travelling with us. Room was extremely clean and comfortable! Beautiful views, convenient to restaurant, World Heritage site at Ferryland, Sullivan's Songhouse right next door, hiking trails and more. Be ready to be hungry in the morning when you show up for breakfast- you fill in what you want from a huge list the night before and Kevin cooks it! No coffee and a muffin here- sausage, eggs, pancakes, granola and yogurt, home fries, toast, lots of coffee tea and juices are just a few things that come to mind. You want to be ready to go out and plough a field or something after eating!

What a beautiful spot for one or a few nights stay. The room is spacious, the view amazing, the breakfast features local ingredients and the host is very friendly and a great cook. Beautifully presented plates with whatever you ordered the night before - pancakes, sausage/bacon, eggs done your way, hashbrowns, yogurt cup, beans, fruit, coffee/tea, orange juice. And lots of local stories to go with the meal. 🙂 I would definitely stay here again.
