This is quite a drive and that is the beauty of it! Off the beaten path and the drive is so beautiful!
We had the most amazing meal! The seaweed broth was instantly energizing. The fact that so much of the food is locally sourced is incredible. I could have had a gallon of the partridge berry juice.
We stayed in the snug harbour house and loved how clean and well equipped the place was.
Best part of the whole experience was the seaweed bath! I had been unsettled for a few nights with vivid dreams and waking up. The night we had the bath in slept like the dead. I felt calmed and grounded, muscle aches subsided and was so refreshed in the morning. It was truly therapeutic!
I can’t wait to go back again for the bath, the food, views and hospitality!

Fabulous dinner in a faraway location! Unpretentious, hearty and delicious.
I really didn’t expect to find Creole cuisine way up here, what a treat. We had shrimp étouffée and dirty rice with fried cod. Plus cod croquettes to start, and a fabulous chocolatey dessert to end. Highly recommended! Call or email to book.

We decided to take a couple of days to explore the Baccalieu Trail in Newfoundland and discovered Grate's Cove - we are so glad we did. We loved our Snug Harbour cottage, the beautiful scenery and hiking at Grate's Cove and most of all the amazing meals and hospitality served up by Courtney and Terrance. I would have never expected to have some of the best meals ever in such a remote part of the world but they truly were, all made with fresh local ingredients. The Ramen and the codfish salad were simply spectacular and we were made to feel completely at home and so welcome. If you want some peace, beauty, wonderful hospitality and food, i can't recommend Grate's Cove more! thank you Courtney and Terrance for a wonderful experience. Also, loved the new outdoor spa!

One of the best and most unexpected dining experiences I have had in Newfoundland. Beautifully presented tasty and creative Cajun-style food in a charming setting and served by the friendly (and fascinating!) proprietor. Definitely worth making the trip and they deliver to St John's too. Since reviewing I went back for a weekend break - their accommodation was comfortable and we tried out the seaweed bath and zodiac tours they organize which were great fun. They make you feel like family!

I stayed for two nights at Snug Harbour House. The house is lovely with a deck that has an ocean view. It was so quiet something a guy from the city appreciates.|There is lots of great hiking in the area. And now the roads are paved which wasn't the case the first time I was in this part of Newfoundland a few years ago.|Courtney and Terrence are excellent hosts, very accommodating. By all means eat at Grates Cove Studios the meals are delicious and such large portions. There are also workshops and and experiences you can arrange beforehand. I am already going back in August for a weekend!

Had the pleasure of visiting again after several years. My wife and I shared the Korean pancake and I had the Gumbo while she had the Creole Calamari. Absolutely delicious, one of the best meals I've ever had.

Great people running it, and they offer a lot of other experiences (tours, getaways, cooking lessons). If you are visiting Newfoundland you would be absolutely remiss to not check the Studio out.

My fiancée and I ate here and had a fantastic experience. A record player, cat, and a view that you'd be hard pressed to beat. For our starter, we had Korean chicken wings and Cod (fresh, not frozen) boulettes. Both fantastic. For our entrees, my fiancée had a Snow crab Étouffée, while I had the Cod Étouffée. Both were glorious. Both were steeped in Cajun tradition while employing fresh caught sea critters. Our server was polite and passionate about the food and experience we received. For 2 appetizers and 2 mains it was $102. Not the cheapest, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better value. Not to mention the 2 fresh tamales we were given on our way out the door! We can't recommend this place enough and look forward to our next visit.
