We were having a delightful mother & son day in Amherst, before he heads back to University. We knew that we were going to eat at the Portlander Jamaican Restaurant (I called to make sure it was open) before we even left home today.
It was the perfect ending to our day, the food was delicious and Donna was a joy to converse with!!
* I had the Jamaican beef patty with coconut curry chickpeas and rice.
* My son had the oxtail (island style ?) and rice.
I also took home a few extra Jamaican beef patties for lunch tomorrow at the office. We will definitely be stopping by when next in Amherst.
Thanks again Donna and lovely chatting with you!!

I can say that’s the best food I’ve had since I came to Canada (2 years ago). It’s my second time in the restaurant and got even more in love with this food! Everything we ordered was delicious! Full of flavour. The fish and chips was excellent, the chicken is very good too. The staff is very kind. We loved the service. The lady showed up with a portion of unexpected fried bananas (exactly as I used to eat in Brazil). My family felt very welcoming here. The food is amazing.

Stopped here for lunch on our road trip.

The lamb curry was melt-in-the mouth tender and oh so flavourful, the Friday Fish n Chips special very good.

Colourful space with authentic food.

Worth a stop.

Passed by here by chance and this will be a meal I will think about for a while. Beautiful comforting food, if you're around the area - you MUST grab a meal here. The jerk chicken is moist and the curry chickpea rice was mouthwatering. Sending lots of love to the owner and I hope to come back here for another meal. - Montreal local

Simply excellent food.

Ordered the butter chicken meal and the beef patty meal.

The food was prepared quickly and the prices are very reasonable for the amount.

The butter chicken had a lot of chicken in it and the curry itself was thick and deliciously spiced. A good portion size for a meal. The beef patty meal was awesome the patty was perfectly flakey and the filling was flavorful. The coconut chick pea curry on rice was also great, good amount of chickpeas.

The location is fairly central to the downtown. The parking is at the back.

The location has limited seating but it is well spaced.

We happened upon this restaurant during a brief trip to NS after a few days of driving - it was exactly what we needed. Both Donna and the gentleman who helped us were lovely and kind; the food was delicious; and (according to my child) the Ting was scrumptious. It was a great spot for a nourishing meal.

Lovely place, great food and kind people.
The chickpea curry comes with every plate and for good reason it’s delicious and rich.

I don't normally review restaurants but this one is worth it. I am so happy to have a new kind of cuisine available in Amherst. The owner is really nice and her food is REALLY good. Jamaican patties are perfect, and I just tried the butter chicken and jerk chicken. The chickpea sauce is beautiful. I will try the stir-fry next. Five stars.
