Takumi’s Japanese restaurant is a tiny, super authentic restaurant that makes some of the best Japanese cuisine in Medicine Hat! This restaurant is a one man show and the chef takes a lot of pride in his food. He has cooked internationally, from Korea to Japan and I was shocked to see him working in our little town.

The restaurant is small, and has seating for around ten people, so be sure to make reservations, as he works hard and fast. He does takeout as well. But be warned that they often have to turn people away or you might have to get it as takeout instead, as it’s usually very busy. The staff is super friendly and very kind though.

The sushi is fabulous, the homemade, crispy pork gyoza are amazing, the yuzu chicken karage and poke salad are top notch! The ramen though, is crazy good; I have had the black truffle ramen and curry ramen and they are ridiculously delicious. The truffle toro aburi nigiri is a must try too. Amazing food from one lone chef; Medicine Hat is lucky to have Takumi! Great sushi too!

I did not expect to find such a delicious sushi place in Medicine Hat! The fish was fresh and delicious! I took the 15 piece omakase and it was amazing. My only complaint is they had so many different tuna options in the menu but I received only one piece of tuna nigiri and 2 shrimp nigiri (shrimp nigiri is my least favourite). It was still good but next time I’d choose my pieces instead of taking the omakase. I’m glad I got to try different types of nigiri though, they were different from I usually get and delicious! It was Halloween and mini mouse was there!

Warm & family-run restaurant with delicious menu. Food is outstanding and meticulously balanced, planned, and executed. I don't think I give compliments lightly, but this place far exceeded my expectations and I would visit Medicine Hat again to drop by in a heartbeat!

Best restaurant in Medicine Hat. Very small with seating for only 10, for the best experience without all the noise and bustle of the crowds. Food and service is top notch. If you want AUTHENTIC Japanese food, this is the place to go. We go there at least once every two weeks.

EDIT: it’s been 3 years, and this is STILL our favourite date night spot. The food is always amazing, and Chef and his wife are so friendly and provide such a happy and welcoming atmosphere. We regularly recommend Takumi to anyone and everyone, for a great dining explanation, every time we have the chance.

The food was insanely good, the people working were so nice. I recommend the Ramen with fried chicken it is so good. In my opinion it is the best restaurant in Canada. Every time I even think of it i just go into a food coma 😴. It is just the best you have to try it

Finally got to try the ramen everyone’s been raving about!! Took dad here, I had the spiciest ramen bowl on the menu, dad had the fried chicken ramen. Both were amazing!!! Enough leftovers for another good meal! Then went again with some friends the following month!
