I stayed at the SureStay Plus by Best Western for two nights at $200 per night and was quite disappointed with the overall experience.

Our room had a strong unpleasant smell as soon as we walked in. The hallway carpets were also dirty and had a foul odor, which may have contributed to the smell in the room. While the room appeared clean and had a fridge and microwave, the bad smell made it uncomfortable. Also, there are bugs crawling in the bathroom !

Our room was on the second floor, right above an outdoor pool that looked poorly maintained. The walls were very thin—we could clearly hear our neighbors and the sound of trains passing outside.

There was no bottled water provided in the room. On the second day, housekeeping never came: the trash was overflowing, towels weren’t replaced, and the bed was not made. I brought this to the front desk, and the staff member told me housekeeping had run out of time due to a high number of checkouts and had already left. She promised a small adjustment to the bill, but when I asked about it at checkout, the staff on duty had no information and said I would be contacted within 2–3 business days. It’s now been over a week with no update.

For the price I paid, I expected much better. This stay did not reflect the standards I associate with the Best Western brand, and I hope improvements are made.

The Worst Experience Ever – Absolutely Unacceptable

I had informed the hotel in advance that I would be traveling with my dog and received confirmation that it wouldn't be a problem. When my family arrived late at night to check in, the small lobby was empty except for us. My daughter was standing beside me holding our 6-pound Maltipoo puppy, and since it was our first trip with our 7-month-old dog, we had brought everything from home – a metal pen, dog tent, and more. Our luggage literally blocked the tiny entrance.

I saw my check-in documents were ready. The front desk staff asked me to sign up for a membership, which I did, and then handed me a paper to fill out car information if I had brought one. After completing everything, we got our key and went up to the room.

The next morning, while we were checking out, the staff told me I had violated hotel policy and would be charged a fine. I was completely shocked. They claimed I hadn’t mentioned I was bringing a pet at check-in, and because of that, I was placed in a regular room, and now I had to pay around $80 in total – for a pet fee and deep cleaning.

I insisted that I had clearly informed them beforehand and that the front desk staff should have already been aware. Also, unless they were blind, there was no way they could have missed our dog – my daughter was carrying her in plain sight, and my son struggled to push a luggage cart overloaded with massive dog supplies. The idea that they didn’t notice is either a cover-up for their own mistake in assigning the wrong room, or worse, a sneaky attempt to charge us extra.

I asked to speak to the manager but was told no one was available. We had further plans that day, so we paid the ridiculous charge and left that awful place as fast as we could. Looking back, I’m not even convinced they actually have separate pet-friendly rooms. The room was small, outdated, smelled like old wood, and had cigarette burn marks on the blanket. There were two chihuahuas in the room right next to ours – nothing about it felt like a “regular” room.

During breakfast, an Indian woman accidentally spilled hot coffee all over my 10-year-old daughter’s T-shirt, and no one apologized. The staff barely cleaned the mess, and because it wasn’t properly dried, my daughter nearly slipped while holding her cereal bowl. Again – no help, no concern.

I can’t believe something like this happened in Canada. That hotel ruined our trip from that moment on. The fact that Best Western allows this hotel to operate under its brand is a huge mistake. I will *never* stay here again, and unfortunately, this experience has tainted my view of the entire Best Western chain. I will absolutely be choosing other options in the future.

We chose this place solely because it was pet-friendly and near where we had plans, so we were willing to overlook the old and run-down facilities. But what we experienced was inexcusable.

Got out in the Stinky third floor. Though we didn't request a pet friendly room we got forced into it. The room and floor stank. Our toilet clogged, the hairdryer didnt work. Breakfast was crowded and wasnt getting refilled fast (only one person working this). It's like 30 mins away from downtown close to the highway.

The handicapped accessible room did not have hand rails around the toilet and the rail that should have been there was mounted in the shower. There were no shower stools available. There were water stains coming down from the ceiling where upstairs had leaked as well as a pocket of water filled paint in the upper corner. The filth on the edges of the bathroom floor was indescribable. Light bulbs were burned out, lamp shades were cracked, curtains had holes in them and the mattress had no protector on it

The rooms have some wear and tear, however the staff at the front desk is amazing! Bhavneet is made for customer service, my husband and I have been so stressed out about getting a early check in so he could have a meeting on zoom today, Bhavneet went above and beyond, she helped us greatly by getting us checked in by 11am when check in is at 3pm and the early check in fee was very reasonable. I hope the owners of this best western see this because she deserves a raise thank you again!

Very happy with our stay. My dad had surgery at Royal Columbian Hospital and we are from out of town so we decided to stay for a couple of days. The hotel was easy to get in and out of, and staff was very pleasant. The beds were both clean and very comfortable. The bathroom needed a little extra cleaning. Overall happy with our stay.
