Arrivés par le ferry de 15h avec nos 2 enfants (7 et 10 ans), nous trouvons l’hôtel fermé sans explication. Une voisine nous trouvant devant la porte appelle le numéro indiqué sur l'enseigne, mais tombe sur une messagerie... Quelques minutes plus tard, elle croise dans la rue un employé qui n'en savait pas plus mais nous propose de laisser nos bagages et revenir vers 18h, heure d'ouverture du restaurant à laquelle les propriétaires devraient donc être de retour....||Nous partons donc en visite obligée de l’île malgré une très longue journée de voyage depuis Nanaimo. De retour vers 17h30, nous trouvons les propriétaires, qui s'excusent à peine et nous remettent la clé de notre chambre.||Celle-ci est propre, dispose d'une kitchenette, mais les équipements sont vieillots en particulier la salle de bain très étroite et dont le bac s'écoulait très mal. ||Nous obtiendrons quand même une petite remise et 2 muffins en guise de geste commercial!

Menu is also on their Facebook page.||They are close to the ferry. If they aren’t busy they can do takeout orders as well; just give them a call. The Indian food is really good; portion sizes are large.

A newly renovated, quirky hotel above a restaurant and bar. Clean, simple and adequate with the occasional surprise (A cupboard door that hit the ceiling vent, edge of the bed that goes slightly into the hall, weird empty spaces). The restaurant below offers great breakfast choices and the owners are very friendly. Would definitely stay here again when I come back to Alert Bay.

Alert Bay is a very nice community. We were here 3 years ago and the food was excellent. Last night the Tandoori Chicken and Butter Chicken did not disappoint. So good! Would totally recommend giving it a try.||Cindy

This would not be my first choice for a restaurant or a bar.
I’ve only eaten breakfast in the restaurant and it’s your typical greasy spoon. Atmosphere is less than desirable for such a beautiful island. The staff however; are friendly. The view sucks too.

The bar is a complete dive. Something you’d see in a dive bar fight scene in a low budget movie. On the up side, you do get to leave with extra sticky sneakers from the grimy floor.

I’ll leave the hotel review up to someone else who’s stayed there. Unless there too busy cleaning the bottom of their sneakers.

The Bayside Inn is a stones throw from the B.C. Ferry dock. The ferry runs from Port McNeill. The inn is above the grill and the pub. There was no noise concerns.||We ate in the restaurant. The fish and chips were great. Our room had two Queen size beds in it as well as a futon. There was a kitchen as well.||There is stair lift to climb the 17 stairs.||It is handy. It is clean and the food was good.

We have enjoyed our stay at Bayside Inn. The friendly, accommodating service exceeded our expectations. Dave, the owner went out of his way to find us some candied smoked salmon (yum). Keep in mind, this is Alert Bay not Hawaii with limited services available. The room was a good size and clean. I highly recommend the U'mista museum and whale watching from the shoreline. Do some research on the history here and take in the magic of the beautiful culture and scenary.

If your in the bay and looking for a cheap place to stay the bay side is pretty decent. It's used to be pretty seedy years ago but the new owner has done renovations and the rooms are decent for the price. There's WiFi, cable, a bar and restaurant downstairs. No 24 hour front desk or anything like a normal hotel (you check in/out in the restaurant downstairs). They have a couple rooms with kitchenettes and offer a monthly rate.
