Très sale: ustensiles sales, poussière partout, condom sous le lit, matelas avec un affaissement d’au moins 10 cm au milieu, micro-onde dont le plateau ne tourne pas, le tampon du réservoir de la toilette avait une fuite et la valve s’enclenchait à toutes les 3 minutes, le tuyau de la douche avait 2 fuites, etc.
Le seul point positif est l’atmosphère d’un édifice construit il y a plus de cent ans.

Positive: I love the full sized old style apartment. Negative: - The bathroom ceilings need cleaning or repainted at minimum. Probably the whole room should be repainted- They need to do something about the shower curtains. Showers are quite cramped cause they close in on you- They should leave an extension cord

Fabulous original Edwardian building and apartments that have been lovingly restored. Many original features. If you admire authenticity then this is the place to stay. If you want white and modern then this is not for you. Those who give poor reviews clearly did not read the description before they booked.||I felt very safe staying there as a solo female traveller.||Wonderful owner and staff. They could not have done more.||Very close to New Westminter station and the Waterfront with numerous restaurants and bars. There is a supermarket in the station complex.

I stayed at Arundel Mansions at 48 Begbie Street, New Westminster, BC, from May 14-18 and 21-24, 2025, while in Vancouver for a rock climbing competition, and overall, I had a great experience! Yes, this is an older building with quirks, but it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

What I Loved:

Spacious & Well-Stocked Kitchen – The full-size fridge and fully equipped kitchen made it easy to prepare meals from the Safeway across the street.

Great Storage – Plenty of space to unpack, which was perfect for our competition gear. I stayed in the large bedroom, while my son stayed on the pull-out couch in the other room.

Convenient Laundry – The machines were large (not those tiny apartment ones!) and affordable at $2 per wash/dry. (Pro tip: The laundry room is accessible by using the extra key in the elevator to get down to the basement.)

Easy Booking – Dealing directly with staff was refreshing—no automated menus or endless phone directories. Just be sure to double-check your reservation details since confirmations aren’t electronic.

Location – Close to the SkyTrain and Safeway, which was super convenient. With earplugs, the train noise wasn’t an issue for us.

A Note on Safety & Neighborhood:
The back door leads to the SkyTrain and Safeway, and there’s a safe injection site nearby, so you’ll see homeless individuals in the area. However, we never felt unsafe—no one approached us, and there were often police around. Just be aware of your surroundings, as you would in any city.

Quirks to Note (But Didn’t Ruin Our Stay):

The floors are squeaky—fine if you’re a heavy sleeper, but light sleepers might want earplugs if someone in your group gets up early.

No AC, but the windows open (just no screens, which took some getting used to).

The radiator heat was a bit tricky to adjust, but we managed.

Spotty Wi-Fi meant I relied on my data plan, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker.

Keep food sealed and off the floor! A mouse found my son’s peanuts that were in his backpack on the floor (lesson learned).

Final Thoughts:
If you’re looking for a charming apartment with character (and don’t mind a few old-building quirks), Arundel Mansions is a solid choice. It was perfect for our needs, and I’d stay again—just with a better food storage strategy next time!

Positive: It really sticks to its heritage vibe. The elevator. complementary wine Negative: Parking out back is tight and in a very rough part of town. I was not 20ft away from my vehicle before someone was looking through my windows to see if something was valuable.

Positive: Size of room, price, vintage/antique details (elevator, toilet, etc.) Negative: Parking lot in back had manually-operated gate that doesn't lock, and constant presence of about half a dozen people using drugs just outside the gate on the sidewalk and street.

Arundel Mansions is a cool hotel. We stayed on a recommendation from family and enjoyed it. The building was built in the 1920s and has an old-timey elevator which we thought was cool. The apartments are very spacious. Ours had a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and large living room area, large windows and a claw foot tub.Everything was decorated vintage! Staying here is a must for anyone interested in vintage 1920s aesthetics, or for those who just want more living space. We met the owner who shared some great stories about the building. Overall the staff were very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and will stay here again.
