We stayed one night at Anthea’s home and felt completely at home. She is incredibly welcoming and helpful, and her two adorable little dachshunds are pure entertainment for dog lovers 😄. The room was spotless, comfortably furnished, and breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. We especially appreciated her support with our ferry departure: she kindly reminded us about the check-in time, recommended dropping off the rental car the evening before, and even offered to drive us to the terminal early in the morning. That level of care is truly exceptional. We give the highest rating and would love to come back. Thank you, Anthea!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was well-presented, clean, comfortable and with excellent facilities. The host was extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast was amazing. More than ample choice of fresh fruits, homemade granola and muesli, various types of bread to eat fresh or toasted and croissants. Best of all, eggs cooked any way you like fresh from the host's own chickens. Anyone looking for a stay in Nanaimo this is the place to come!

This is about my experience with Campbell Cottage B&B in Nanaimo, BC, Canada.
It's just outrageous behavior of the owner of this house
with a bunch of barking dogs through the window.
We had a trip to BC, Canada to celebrate my 70th anniversary.
This house was the first on our way and it has happened to be the worst experience in my whole life.
We started the day early, were driving, US/CN border delay, long ferry waiting time to get to Vancouver Island.
Eventually the ferry arrived in Nanaimo at 6pm.
At 6:15 pm we stopped before house
(which I would never booked just looking at it in the first place)
with closed door, message on the door
and barking a bunch of dogs in the window.
The message was - You are late.
We were forced to look for another place to stay in Nanaimo.
The owner charged me for the night and refused to make a refund.
Later she compared herself to the store,
which closes at 6 pm, so no one will expect it to be open at 6:15pm.
Wrong! This is hospitality business, Owner should accommodate late check-in
may be by installing digital lock and giving instructions in email
like many such businesses to do or by any other way.
She decided to go the easy way - just stole my money.
The Booking . com has rejected my review
due to, I am almost sure, she complained that review is without staying.
Yes, it is without a stay but it should warn people that such a thing can happen to them
with this house/owner and let them decide whether to book it or not.
Normally check-in time specified is considered as desirable only.
If it is really mandated and enforced,
owner must underline it, put it in the bold at the beginning and
not somewhere between lines at the end.
(I keep a hard copy of the owner's message at the door and the picture of the house
proving our time being over there)

Lovely cosy room with aircon if needed. Anthea is a great host, very friendly and accommodating.|Great communication beforehand and lovely welcome.|Bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with fresh eggs from the garden chickens and an awesome dish of prepared fresh fruit, pastries etc.|Quiet residential area. We walked to the harbour for dinner and got a cab home.|Two sweet little dogs and a cat complete the stay.|Would stay again!

Great if you want no privacy and enjoy listening to a host praising herself endlessly, yapping dogs and a stinky cat. Having stayed in many traditional B&B across the world, this one was beyond strange as in reality is a small home renting one room only (the elderly woman/host sleeps in the attic) and the other “room” is some sort of sewing room/office. Nothing about this place feels or is run like a professional business.

Set in a very quiet part of town about 15 walk into the old downtown area but you wouldn't need to go there. There are high quality restaurants just a few minutes away. Very clean room (big bed) and bathroom (not ensuite). Good wi-fi and an absolutely excellent breakfast. The advantage of a B&B is that you can get local advice from the host which proved invaluable. Beautiful place to stay.

My bedding wasn’t changed for 3 nights. When I stripped the bedding hinting for a clean or switch. I got in from my day just to get chewed out by the host for messing with the bedding. She was very rude about it and wasn’t shy talking with a negative attitude. I was in shock and felt guilty for nothing. I felt very uncomfortable after that and decided to leave. On my way out I explained why I was leaving, only to get a lecture and said my business didn’t matter. No apologies or thanks for coming. Just a push out the door saying she’s busy enough.
Thanks for the very uncomfortable stay and the attitude I definitely won’t be going back or recommending to anyone. She’s clearly just an older woman that has no customer service.

All - be aware that this is not a "Cottage", but a lady renting a single room in her private home. While that may technically meet the criteria of a B&B in British Columbia, it is not at all clearly expressed in this site (compare it with her listing on AirBnB(dot)com and you will see she is far more clear elsewhere. There was no fridge or microwave inside the room (although it was advertised and pictured as such)The refrigerator on offer was in a separate private & very messy room and was more than half full of pet food and medication. When told that we did not understand that the booking was for a private room in a private residence, the owner changed her demeanor dramatically and said she would be more comfortable if we left, since we were not comfortable. She said "I will refund your money"...So we agreed and took a few minutes to find alternate accommodation. As we collected our things and headed out the door she said "I will only refund one night; I didn't say I will refund ALL your money." So just like her listing, she uses vagueness to mislead.
