If I had written this review prior to my recent stay mid-late March 2025, I would have given 3 stars. ||||Last year I needed to book 2 rooms for my family to stay at so we could attend a funeral.||I had to pick my oldest up in Victoria and then travel to Port Mc Neill. When I was concerned about the lobby closing for check ins, I was reassured that alternative arrangements could be made and I was able to pay ahead of time and we had a pet and although the hotel was a bit cramped and outdated, kinda noisy (no carpet in either of our rooms) and chilly, we were so relieved that we didn't have any issues because of what we were going through at the time that none of that stuff bothered us.||||A different story this time,||We ended up moving to Port McNeill and our vehicle broke down, the taxi wasn't available for a ride home after my son and I had been dropped off at the grocery store and there was a big storm. Because we were doing renovations at the place we had just moved into we didn't have hot water so I suggested we stay at the Dalewood Inn because they were so helpful before by allowing us to check in over the phone. I had recently lost my physical credit card and the owner basically called me a liar stating she had no recollection of our stay there the year before. I called my husband who was working a block away and he was happy to have a night of relaxation with hot water and when he showed up there she was reluctant to accommodate us due to not having a physical card. I said our card should still be on file and she claimed the event never happened and then agreed to a cash deposit. She stated the deposit be for $500 CAD we thought that was too high and she settled for $300 CAD. (Which was still too high in our minds) But since there was no way to get back home we agreed. ||||I truly believe that the woman thought we were homeless because all 3 of us were drenched from the storm and did not have our vehicle with us. When my husband showed me the receipt for the room it took everything I had to not go confront this woman about how she felt that the cramped tiny little room that was way smaller than either of the rooms we rented the year before valued at $160 CAD! We had our dog with us last time and with the pet deposit the room was still only $150, and it had a kitchenette! The woman tried to keep some of the deposit and said we had a dog in the room because there were dog hairs found on the bed that must have fallen off our clothes or something. My husband stated we did not have any pet with us and wanted the full amount and wanted to see proof of her reasons for this. They both entered the room and when she pointed out the couple of dog hairs my husband claimed that was no damage or reason to believe that any animal was in there and no camera footage of any pet so she then said that she had to wash the bedding because I guess my son had his shoes on the bed because there was dirt marks probably from wet feet from the storm, and my husband was floored, you have to wash the bedding because you are a hotel and you have to wash the bedding that's what you do! He claimed. He said it was bad enough that she already got more for the room than it was worth she felt she needed to try to take more money! She said well you don't even have a credit card. He said we do have a credit card and you even have it on file from the last time we were here. She claimed that there was no way that could possibly be the truth and blacklisted us from the hotel and threatened to blacklist us from the other hotels in town as well. So unless you want to over pay for a tiny cramped room with poor insulation and possibly used bedding from someone who has no respect for the fact that you are paying them for accomodation that is equivalent to a bottom tier hostel, and an owner who thinks she owns a 5 star, and treats guests like her 2 star is too good for them, better keep quiet about it or she'll have you banned across town! ||Not okay!
