A colleague and I made an unplanned visit to meet someone from Didsbury and spent time at a bar named Tavern. The establishment offers a pleasant atmosphere, a diverse selection of beers, and excellent service. By coincidence, we encountered the owners, who are remarkable individuals.

My fiance and I did not have a good experience here. It all started when we opened the menu and saw MANY spelling mistakes ("salt o pepper", "parmeson, greenpapers/green papper, creem, caesar, garvey - on this one page alone). To make matters worse, in some spots, the word is spelled correctly; in others, it's incorrect, with random use of capital letters and plural vs singular ingredients. It looks like this menu was written by a 5-year-old, and nobody else had looked at it before printing. I know this business is under new management, and they may have rewritten the menu to reflect new changes, but at the bare minimum, they should have sent it through a free spell checker before printing it onto all their menus. Ensuring you have correct grammar is the very least you can do as a business, and this error shows a significant lack of professionalism.

Unfortunately, the servers seemed to lack the necessary training, evident in their awkward interactions (one even struggled to set cutlery at the table). Their confusion was obvious when they went from table to table, trying to figure out where a meal was supposed to go.

Not one employee in the establishment knew how to work the mic or the lights for the stage, yet they put on live music. About 15 minutes later, a customer figured out the mic and the lights were all or nothing (disco, spotlight, blue light, etc.), which did not fit the atmosphere or the music being played.

I won't even get into the issues with our food. I will say the servers were prompt, and the drinks were good.

The last straw was at the end of the night when the server handed us the machine to pay. We asked for an itemized receipt; they said, "We don't do that." (they did note they are in the process of getting an updated POS system. However, she also said they have been open for three months - this should have been a priority before they opened). So, we were just supposed to pay the amount on the machine and trust that this was accurate? Also, without an itemized receipt, one cannot claim their meal as an expense (if they wished to do so). This is an extremely outdated way of conducting business at a restaurant.

They also told us they would be opening a restaurant next to the tavern soon. My advice: Master the business you currently have open so you don't have two poorly run businesses. Overall, we couldn't help but feel like they took ownership of this business and opened it haphazardly with no restaurant experience whatsoever. More forethought should have been put into the details and the process of running a restaurant. We will not be returning.

This restaurant was disappointing. The music was too loud, and tables were set up beside the back door (where people smoked, wafting the smell in often). Servers could use some training in serving. The cook tried to "put a spin" on some of their meals but failed to tell the servers or add the ingredients to the menu, completely changing what you were expecting to get in a meal. The menu had so many spelling mistakes that it was laughable. I was very confused when I went to pay and didn't get a receipt.. just the machine. I don't know about you, but I usually like to see that what I'm paying for is right. If you look at the 5 star reviews, they all magically appeared 2 months ago, and they all sound the same... Interesting.

Great place to go. The level of professionalism with all the staff isn’t compromised despite their friendly nature. They made us feel welcomed. Will definitely be going again! Highly recommend for a night out
