Loved this spot!
Just came across this place while walking by and had to stop in. Super cozy and really clean inside. The owners (I think?) were so friendly and helpful, it felt really welcoming. I had a matcha and some food which were delicious!! Will definitely be back!

At the corner or Nanaimo and Hastings is this cute and busy cafe. Service was great. Very very friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte which is made with homemade strawberry jam and also an apple butterscotch with white chocolate scone. Both were delicious! Matcha was nice and cold very refreshing while they warmed up my scone! Mmmm. Would definitely like to come back and try out their sandwiches! Not sure why I always walked by this place, however glad I finally did! Great selection of pastries and cool summer specials/drinks. Their donations to feed the hungry is also amazing! 🤩

Nice cafe although I think some of the previously posted pictures are wrong (don’t belong to the cafe).

They seem to have the nondairy options for vegetarian or vegan people; however, that doesn’t help me as I don’t want to be forced to drink these so-called “milk”s just because I am lactose intolerant. That is to say, they don’t have lactose free cow’s milk. I can’t have each of the nondairy “milk” options for various medical reasons but in any case it could be the case that I just don’t like them. So I would prefer if they had an actual lactose-free milk option.

Because of the reasons described above, I always have to get black coffee or tea. Their coffee is good and they have nice herbal tea options, so it’s not that bad. However I couldn’t try many of their lattes. I tried a matcha latte once with oat milk and it made me sick (as I mentioned I can’t actually have oat milk or any of the other nondairy “milk”s, but I tried it as they didn’t have an option that would work for me—big mistake of mine). And I didn’t try any other latte or any cafe latte.

The gluten-free mini loaf was way too sugary. I’d recommend adjusting the ingredients in their recipe.

I like the vibes in this cafe. Plenty of tables. The big table by the entrance is good but it is uneven and kind of bothers me. The chair pads are somewhat dirty though and I don’t feel comfortable sitting on the padded chairs.

I find the morning staff more friendly than the afternoon staff, although both parties are friendly enough.

Friendly service and great selection of drinks and baked goodies. I really like the laid back vibe and the decor with all the random furniture. They do live music occasionally too. Great matcha.

Best open mic in East Van! Josh is an incredible host and community builder. City Smiles is the warmest paying it forward initiative in Vancouver. The coffees are delicious and the selection of savoury and sweet fresh baked goods is pretty amazing! Oh...did I mention the fiction/non-fiction reading clubs? There is no such thing as being lonely if this becomes your Zen spot:)

Gave East Cafe a shot after reading some promising reviews on Google, and it didn’t disappoint!

Although it was a rainy day and we couldn’t enjoy their famed rooftop area, the indoor ambiance made up for it. I tried their Spanish latte and an iced Americano, where you can choose between light or dark roast beans—a rare find and a sign of a true coffee connoisseur’s spot. Both coffees were above average, with the Spanish latte being particularly noteworthy. The chicken bacon club sandwich was a tasty complement to the beverages.

The overall environment, vibe, and music were welcoming and pleasant. Can’t wait to return on a sunny day to experience the rooftop and enjoy a relaxed afternoon amidst the hustle of Hastings.

Highly recommend for coffee lovers and those seeking a cozy nook in the city!

Cool little cafe, great service as well! I loved the retro stuff up top. Most importantly was greeted warmly and given all the options for my iced mocha (roast level and milk etc). Cookie was delicious as well. Rare an iced mocha tastes just right for me - strong rich espresso taste instead of too milky like a latte!
