The Fairmount Bed and Breakfast is a fantastic experience, located on Road 90, off Highway 10, after Neepawa and just past Minnedosa. It was our "home" for three days, as we explored Neepawa, Mimnedosa, and Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park. As you drive the 6kms up a gravel road to find the house, you wonder, will it be worth it? The answer is a resounding "YES." Host, Susan Proven is a one-woman wonder woman. She has created a warm, welcoming place in her 1913 farmhouse. It is located beside a beautiful slough and surrounded by green pastures. A huge vegetable garden sits in front of the house. We were greeted by a lively dog and two cats who roam the grounds. There are no animals allowed in the house, though. There is also a small flock of sheep and a friendly donkey named Lucy (I think) who keeps the sheep in line!
Inside, we were greeted by a gorgeous home, simple but very classy, all in the style appropriate for a 1913 rural home. The parlour is small but full of comfy furniture. The dining room can seet 10 at the table. The kitchen is Susan's domain. She made us an amazing lamb stew for our dinner on the first night ( offered at a reasonable price over and above the nightly stay and breakfast). The lamb was from a neighbour, and the vegetables were all from Susan's garden. Over the three mornings we were there for breakfast, we had waffles, bacon and eggs, and frittata. All the meals were plentiful and delicious. One morning, we got to visit with a couple from Ontario who stayed for one night as they drove home from time in Sasatchewan. There are three lovely bedrooms on the second floor, with two small bathrooms. Our room had a queen size bed and was very comfortable. There is also an attic that sleeps 7! Susan was expecting an intergenerational family of 7 after we left. We had a wonderful experience, and we hope to return next year!

I loved this place. It's beautiful, clean and quiet. The host is lovely and knows everything about the area. Breakfast was awesome 🥓 🍳 The house itself is full of stories. If you ride a motorcycle, I recommend coming from Basswood/provincial road 270. Highway 10 is being renovated (July 2023) and is very bumpy. It's still doable but not pleasant. Coming from the other way also means less gravel roads. I was able to come with my Honda CB 500F, you just need to take your time!

We stayed with Susan for two nights this year and she was nothing but an exceptional host.

Food was fresh and delicious. The house has a lot of story. Great location, close to Riding Mountain National Park. Very affordable.

What I loved the most was the experience and getting to chat with Susan. She's incredibly knowledgable about so many different topics that will blow your mind... politics, Canada's history, agriculture, architecture, tourism tips... The list keeps going on. If you stay at her place, you'll enjoy a great conversation with her.

So we actually did not visit in August 2021 - that was the last date I could pick under 'When did you travel' - we stayed here for a family wedding several years ago and I had been meaning to write a review as this was such a beautiful place. We were attending a family wedding in Russel Manitoba and even though this was a bit of a car ride it was totally worth it. This inn is amazing and a breathtaking place. It situated on a small sheep farm. My husband and I and our kids loved the place. We had the whole attic to ourselves that is ideally furnished for a family. I loved walking around the farm and chatting with the wonderful host. The food she made for us was also amazing. ||||I highly recommend this B&B - we would definitely return if we had the occasion to visit that area again.

We were in Manitoba to visit my husband’s mother and visit where his parent’s grew up. We had visited but not stayed at the Fairmount Bed and Breakfast site in the past when we lived in Manitoba so we were excited to visit again. My husband booked our stay through Trip Advisor/Hotels.com after seeing the great reviews. ||The breakfast was very nice and we met a nice couple from Edmonton, however I was not impressed with the accommodations.|We were told immediately that we could not wear our shoes inside the facility. It was hot and muggy inside the house. I asked for a fan which helped but it was difficult to fit it in the small room which had only one chair. The bathrooms were shared and were not cleaned daily. The supper we had there was overpriced. ||Susan was eager to share her knowledge of the history of the area, but as soon as she knew we lived in the US she would not stop putting the country down. It was very stressful. ||Finally at the end of the trip after we payed in cash, she recalled that we had booked on-line and insisted we pay her booking fee for Hotels.com! ||Perhaps the Fairmount B&B was a good place to stay twenty years ago,but I would not recommend this place now.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and loved it. Susan is a fantastic host and serves up a very fine breakfast. The rooms are small but quaint, all with picturesque views of the surrounding farmlands and small lake on the property. We had a queen bed and it was very comfortable. ||||The location is very peaceful with few vehicles driving by. It's so quiet at night, the still broken by the occasional yipping of a distant coyote. We had a lovely time here. ||||For our breakfast, one morning we had farm fresh egg scramble with tomato bread and the next, home made waffled with flax and a berry compote.||||If you need to get away from it, this is a great place to do it!

The property is cute and well maintained and in a nice setting. Mosquitoes were quite bad but that is summer in Manitoba. As expected for a farm property, it is pretty isolated. The rooms were nice but quite small. Bathroom facilities were good but you have to share. This is an authentic, vintage farmhouse so that wasn’t a surprise. No air conditioning. Manitoba summers can sometimes be quite hot so keep this in mind if you like things cool in your room. ||||The meals were ok. Do not eat dinner here as Susan really overcharges for what she serves. And all must be paid in cash. She does not take credit card. ||||Why the 1 star? Well, when we go on vacation we like to get away from the stresses of home. Our host however, could not resist talking politics. She complimented social programs in Cuba. She insisted on hounding us about gun and crime problems in America and referred to my wife and I as “you Americans.” She referred to herself as a Social Democrat, which in America is a Democratic Socialist. I frankly don’t care about her political views but she just couldn’t quit. It was frustrating and I was forced to defend America from attacks from a Canadian socialist with an incomplete understanding of the issues.||||I would not recommend a stay at the Fairmount Bed and Breakfast unless, of course, you like debating politics on vacation and you have similar views as the host. My wife and I will never stay there again.

If you are looking for an amazing bed and breakfast, than look no further. The fair mount bed and breakfast is an amazing place to stay. The host is amazingly accommodating and is also very kind. Both my wife and I stayed here and we both enjoyed it very much as the atmosphere is relaxing and quite peaceful. Although out of the way, it’s quiet and has an amazing scenery. The rate is very reasonable as well as is the breakfast. I highly recommend it as it is a very family friendly place to be.
