We used to come here every time we came to Vancouver. It's definitely run down. The girl who served us was super nice. The food was ok. We had a beef dip with poutine(which came on a separate plate) and a clubhouse sandwich with onion rings(that were very good). Definitely not shy on portions. Their pies and cakes are massive. We didn't have any desserts because we were too full. It's been there forever. Don't expect fancy, but for an old 50's diner, we love it.

We had a delightful breakfast at Fresgo! The chicken strips were crispy and flavorful, the veggie omelet was fresh and perfectly cooked, and the chicken burger and turkey club sandwich were both hearty and satisfying. To top it all off, we indulged in a rich slice of chocolate cake and smooth coffee—an excellent finish to a sumptuous meal. Highly recommended for a fulfilling breakfast experience!

Cool venue...decent burger.
Bad salty customer service. No please, thankyou not even a hello. Cook looked so pissed when I asked for a container to take leftovers.
Not at all a happy staff.
Dry microwaved paper thin gray beef makes for a very dry bland unseasoned beef dip...no mayo, aiolli or even butter on a barely grilled bun as evident by my pics.
I really wanted to support Fresgos but this is not the Fresgos I remember.

Wow I miss Walter. I grew up here. What happened? Service is now slower, restaurant is dirtier and the food gone down hill.

No clean trays. After 30+ years, that's new. Food took forever to get done, not used to waiting so long.

Food is lacking, but now I get this: instead of onion rings, I get the crap in the picture; rings that are too thick and don't get crispy. Plus, they stick together in the deep fryer, don't cook properly and come out RAW and inedible. So not only did I pay for inedible food, but the cook felt it was okay to serve undercooked food to a customer. They don't care.

Everything just seems worse across the board. Roast beef is tough as leather. Flavors seem off. One would have thought that new owners would re energize this place a bit; however the sense I get is that quality control has left the building. After decades, I am left wondering if I'll go back? I certainly was not impressed.

This place is like a time capsule. I have been coming here with my family since the 90s and the vibes are still there. Don’t worry when you see the prices cause the portions are still INSANE! (In a good way 😆)

My buddy go the feature butter chicken which was a whole plate with a side plate of salad and garlic bread.

I got the Shepherds Pie which literally made me laugh out lout st how big it was. Another massive plate and just outstanding home cooked energy! It was soooooo good!

As a youngling I used to love the mushroom burgers and meatloaf.

Plus do not forget there is a FULL BAKERY at the back to get delicious fresh cakes and pies for any event!

Honestly it doesn’t look like much but bring a friend a split a plate and have a good diner experience in a place that has been feeding hungry folk for longer than I’ve been alive!

Big portions and very good food. Very friendly cooks and service was great. I loved the cafeteria service style and they do their own baking as well. Lots of choices on the menu with great daily specials. An old school gem. Will definitely be back.

Edited to say that Fresgo Inn is now under new ownership after the longtime owner, Water retired. Sadly, the food and vibe have changed. I am leaving my original review up for history's sake.

Is this a fancy restaurant? No. Is the food high end gourmet? No. But we went craving casual food in a funky atmosphere, and that is what we got.

Counter staff was friendly enough, the owner, Walter, very kind and appreciative of our visit, with a big genuine smile and a "thank you, I appreciate you coming!" when we chatted with him for a moment as we left.

There was plenty of parking right out front, it's wheelchair accessible, the restaurant was clean, and the food was ready quite quickly (around 10 minutes), and was abundant. Soup was served on the spot at the counter.

We ordered 2 clubhouse sandwiches, which came with fries, a Manhattan clam chowder that was hot, thick with vegetables, and a generous portion. We also bought 2 pieces of delicious cake to go - black forest and a chocolate cake with delicious chocolate icing.

It's nostalgic and unpretentious, serving comfort food with a smile. I went to the Vancouver location with my then boyfriend, now husband 37 years ago at 18 years old - our first date. I don't visit often. Maybe once a year. But every time I'm there I always think damn, I'm going to miss this place when it's gone. The world is changing and Fresgo Inn is a rarity, a little local gem.

We decided to visit one more time as it is now sold to a new owner. They officially stated that the menu would not change, but they've already added Indian dishes which isn't too strange given the surrounding demographic. We ordered classic burgers and the buns seemed really dry but it could have been just a one-time thing. The cheesecake which I've loved since the 80s was really expensive and sliced a lot smaller than I remember. I would be surprised if this classic time-capsule of Surrey didn't change, but we'll see. Thanks for the memories Walter. Enjoy your retirement, you earned it.
