My wife and I were on the fence about our stay at this hostel. We went with 4 friends in the middle of February 2025 and it was freezing outside the whole weekend. The kitchen and eating area and sleeping areas were always warm, but they had a living area with games table and couches that wasn't heated, so it remained dark, cold and empty all winter. The kitchen and eating area became quite cramped and everyone was all over each other when there was more than 8 or 9 people present. There were many jugs of drinkable water available but the jug spouts were hard to open and close. Guests had their bags and boxes and plastic containers of groceries all over the place and the refrigerator was always packed full. It was awkward brushing your teeth at the only sink in the kitchen while another guest was trying to clean dishes.

We knew there was no running water or showers and only outhouses before we arrived. However, we were pleasantly surprised there was Wi-fi available and a place to recharge our phones, even though most reviews said there was no Wi-fi or electricity available. It was uncomfortable having to get up in the middle of the night and climb up the stairs outside in minus 27C weather to the outhouse to pee. One of the outhouses had a poo mountain that went almost to the top of the toilet seat!

We think this hostel would be much better to visit during the summer months because there are more things to do there and spaces to eat and socialize when it is warmer outside. We personally really missed the lack of a fireplace or wood burning stove especially in the dead of winter. We had no interest in lighting a fire in the fire pit outside in freezing weather. Scott the onsite manager was very nice and we only briefly saw him upon arrival when he informed us about the water situation and to keep the doors closed at all times to prevent wild critters from entering the indoor spaces.

We all had a good sleep both nights and the kitchen has everything you need to cook your meals. With no running water, it was a bit of a hassle cooking and cleaning and always taking the dirty sink water to the outhouse, but it was manageable. Two nights is all we could handle without having a shower. We felt we had to rewash the dishes we used at times but the hostel was otherwise clean enough. The area was very beautiful, tranquil and scenic and a nice drive. During our stay, we drove to Beauty Creek nearby to watch the sunrise or hike the 3.2 km trail to and from Stanley (ice) Falls.

If the hostel had a fireplace or wood burning stove and somewhere more appropriate we could play board games or socialize after supper, our stay would have been so much more enjoyable. An earlier check-in time before 5pm would have been nice too. Both evenings it felt like we just cooked, ate, did dishes, then went and hid in our room until we went to sleep so other guests had space to cook and eat and do their dishes. We would definitely visit the area again, but likely won't stay at this hostel next time.

A True Gem in Nature's Embrace
My stay at Beauty Creek Wilderness Hostel was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the sustainable approach, with the entire facility powered by solar energy. This commitment to eco-friendliness instantly earned my admiration. The fully equipped kitchen was a blessing, allowing me to whip up meals effortlessly. And let me tell you about the sleep - it was the best I've had in the past 30 years! The serene surroundings and comfortable accommodations made it a dreamlike experience. But what truly sets this hostel apart is the exceptional hospitality of Manager Grant. His warmth and genuine desire to ensure every guest's comfort left a lasting impression on me. Whether it was offering insider tips on exploring the wilderness or simply sharing a friendly chat, his presence added immense value to my stay. And of course, the view! Words can hardly do justice to the breathtaking vistas that greeted me each morning. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Mr. Grant and the entire Beauty Creek Wilderness Hostel team for creating such a memorable experience. This place is more than just a hostel; it's a sanctuary where nature and hospitality converge to offer an unforgettable retreat. Highly recommended!

I recently stayed 3 nights, and was very disappointed in the hospital and cleanliness of the place.
The person who is currently running it is very disinterested and really wanting to leave and just doing it for the money. When I got there he was a sleep on the couch in the sun room with his nintendo switch on the lap. And general tidiness of the place was disappointing, with stuff just left out everywhere. My tour of the place, I was told to do jobs that I would clearly expect the house staff to do, like being told that if the bucket under the sink gets full you empty it into the toilet, I would have expected “let me know and I will empty it” instead.
When booking my stay, online it says that the hostel has Wifi and a shower ect, but on site it does but you are not allowed to use it. Very frustrating! And there was also little laminate signs on the entrance the show that Wifi is available. I didn’t bother me to be without Wifi but I had planned on making a phone call back home, and had to drive up to the ice fields to be able to do it. It would just be nice if things online were correct.

I will give 5 stars to Grant the area manager for coming out late one night, when the heater in the other dorm building would not start and fixing it. Really nice place, and love the off grid feel

I visit jasper a lot and thought of giving HI beauty creek a shot and it was awesome! Truly off the grid, better than expected and I had the best sleep ever! Grant is a super cool human, very knowledgeable person to chat with and adds value to the hostel experience. They have solar power, the rooms were super clean and the kitchen was stocked with essentials. Views are pretty amazing.
