I've been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years, and I know very well that the dining time limit is 1.5 hours, which has never been a problem. We love the food and the experience of the chef cooking at the table — that part was, as always, amazing.

However, the service we received from our server this time was extremely disappointing. She was rude from the beginning, making faces every time we asked for something. Even though we still had about 30 minutes left before the 1.5-hour limit, we were rushed and made to feel unwelcome. It got so uncomfortable that we decided not to order dessert, even though we were planning to.

Our bill was over $200, yet we felt mistreated. I even took a picture of the receipt to identify the server, hoping management will take this seriously.

Additionally, the other guests sharing the table with us commented that they felt disrespected too — they hadn’t even started eating, and they were already handed takeout containers. This level of service is unacceptable for any restaurant, especially one we have supported for so many years.

I really hope the management addresses this issue because the attitude and behavior of this server were simply terrible.

This was a fun experience. I'm from the Calgary area but was in town meeting family so we all went out for a family member's birthday. Staff was very kind and helpful. I asked for some recommendations for cold sake and they definitely had some great options.

Food quality was solid and like most North America teppanyaki places, the experience was entertaining. Definitely would come back when I'm in the Langley area. Thanks again guys!

The amount of food that comes with an ultimate dinner is barely anything compared to Kobe’s in Vancouver. We told them it was our one year anniversary, they didn’t do anything. The price for the food is such a scam. Not worth coming here. The chef we had was amazing.

It was all so good. It tasted like nothing I’ve ever had before and I 100% recommend it. Though you should go on like a Tuesday, because if you go Friday to Sunday it’s really really busy.

Great food, good service and the decor is a trip to 1990's when world peace and stable economy was the norm. Highly recommend!

I had a really great time here years ago, going to go again soon and revisit my review. I hope it's just as great as it was in 2016-2019!! I loved the experience. Food cooked in front of you. Intimate location, lots of parking and easy access. Menu was reasonably priced for the high quality food.

Katana

Location: 19957 Willowbrook Dr, Langley, BC V2Y 1A7

Upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly greeted by the hostess, who exuded warmth and professionalism. We were seated immediately, setting a positive tone for the rest of our dining experience.

Food:

As a starter, we were served a small plate of salad accompanied by miso soup. While the salad was decent, without any standout qualities, the miso soup was flavorful and well-prepared, providing a comforting beginning to our meal.

Appetizer:

Ebi Chili Mayo
Deep-fried king-size tiger prawns served with a special chili mayo, topped with corn chips.

The Ebi Chili Mayo appetizer was particularly impressive. The crispiness of the prawns, combined with the rich and tangy chili mayo, created a harmonious balance of texture and flavor. The prawns were generously sized and cooked to perfection. This dish is highly recommended for those seeking a flavorful and satisfying appetizer.

Rating: 9/10

For the main course, we opted for The Ultimate Dinner, which featured a giant lobster tail, filet mignon steak, shrimp, and scallops.

The portion of rice served initially was generous, a notable difference from other establishments. The filet mignon steak was undoubtedly the highlight of the meal—cooked to a perfect rare as requested, it was tender, well-seasoned, and delectable. The scallops were also commendable, with a beautiful golden-brown sear and a delicate taste. The shrimp and lobster were equally well-prepared, with a good balance of seasoning that enhanced their natural flavors. The accompanying vegetables were fresh and well-cooked, rounding out the dish nicely.

Chef:

Our teppanyaki chef was exceptionally friendly and engaging, adding a personal touch to the meal. While the performance followed the typical teppanyaki format, he did manage to surprise us with an unexpected trick, which was a pleasant addition to the experience. Overall, his skill and demeanor contributed positively to the meal.

Service:

The service throughout our visit was outstanding. Our waitress was attentive, courteous, and ensured that our needs were met promptly. Her professionalism and friendliness greatly enhanced our dining experience.

Rating: 9/10

Ambiance:

The ambiance of the restaurant, while generally acceptable, would benefit from some modernization and upgrades. While it was adequate for the meal, it lacked the refinement one might expect from a venue of this caliber.

Rating: 6/10

Price:
The pricing was reasonable, given the high quality of ingredients and the entertainment value provided by the teppanyaki chef. The combination of visual spectacle and culinary expertise justifies the cost, making it a worthwhile experience.

Verdict:

Despite the need for some improvements in ambiance, Katana excels in delivering high-quality food and exceptional service. The overall dining experience was enjoyable, and I look forward to returning in the future. This restaurant is certainly worth a visit for those seeking a memorable teppanyaki experience.

The food was absolutely incredible
However, the service left a lot to be desired. We had a 1.5-hour dining limit (from 6:00 to 7:30), but we were being rushed to leave as early as 7:00. It felt like we were being pushed out well before our time was up. To make matters worse, our beer bottles were cleared from the table before we even finished them – a small detail, but it really added to the feeling that we were being hurried along and not valued as guests.

It’s a real shame, because the food deserves praise. I’d love to come back, but only if the service becomes more respectful and mindful of the guest experience.
