We got the meat bowl and the food was delicious. The spicy meat stew and lentils were our favorite. Generous portions for the price. The server was really friendly. It is a small little joint and can be tricky to get there. We would come back again.

Come visit Emah (owner) most down-to-earth person to serve you. You like coffee? Ethiopia is known for their coffee!! She will pour you the best cup in all of downtown. Come hungry, leave with a smile on your face and most importantly belly's full. Keep up the awesome work/service and food Emah!!!

Awesome lunch spot. Haven't checked out the breakfast yet, but I bet it's good too if the lunch is any indication. $10 for a hefty portion of injera, various sauces, and salad. Tastes wonderful too.

The only gotcha, as an out-of-towner, is that access is NOT obvious from street level. You need to use the unassuming skyway access door at 350 Portage, and then the cafe is accessed directly from the skyway. We almost missed it, and would have missed out!

We got there late, and a number of dishes were sold out.

That already tells you a couple things: the food is always made fresh, and it's popular enough to sell out!

We had the shiro - and it's the best, most comfort food shiro I've ever had. To be fair, I've only got 3 other places to compare to, but two of those were very well regarded in Vancouver... So maybe there's better shiro out there somewhere - but this is good stuff.

We also had some lentils and split peas, which were also tasty, but lost in the shadow of the extreme deliciousness of the shiro.

The cafe itself is very low key. It's clean and well cared for, but other than some traditional decoration, it's very simple. This place wins on food quality - and appears to be a bit of a hangout for the community (another good sign!).

I recommend this place without hesitation for delicious food in a casual setting.
