Although I no longer live here, my parents have lived down the road from this pub my whole life. I have been a few times in the past, but when I visited this time all the staff were very unfriendly. Every time I asked a question I was given a dirty look. I think this is the first time I have ever had a server roll their eyes at me when I asked a question. People that were not noticeably staff were going behind the bar. When I ordered my drink and food I was given the wrong change, short changed by more than $5, and was given a lot of attitude when I asked for the rest of my change. Although the drinks were fine the food we ordered was less than par. The breaded pickles were mushy, dry and almost stale tasting. The overall atmosphere was clearly geared towards regulars and preference given to them. I can't say I'd ever go there again. Horrible experience.

This is a classic old style English pub, built in the the 1800s, nursed over time, and currently run by two dedicated and friendly, on-site owners Terry and Edna. They work tirelessly to keep this landmark establishment open, active and interesting.
The beer selection is very good, including local micro-brewed craft samplers. The food is basic pub fare, most of which is made fresh from scratch on demand. There are dart boards, big screen TVs, music on demand and some other entertainment amenities.
The tables, counters, carpets and bathrooms are clean, as is the rest of this heritage building (a former hotel, back in the day.) The service is old school predictable.
Do Terry and Edna cater to their regulars? You bet they do, because regulars keep businesses in business. So make yourself a regular and enjoy your visit.

If you're in the National Capital Region and want an authentic pub experience, that isn't one of the many chains in the area then look no further.

The Russell House will give you exactly that, at great prices. I miss the days when I was only a 30 minute drive away and could enjoy British Pub Classics and a nice cold beer to go with it.

Me and my husband love it there goof home cook meal they let you choose the music on juke box we play pool its a quit place were we go to have a date to get closer and intimate nice big screen tv also .we find the owners verry freindly and awsome.
