Sergeant Tommy Prince Place Pool, formerly North Centennial Recreation & Leisure Facility, is a standout community hub in Winnipeg, offering an inviting and inclusive environment for aquatic and recreational activities.

Renamed to honor the legacy of Sergeant Tommy Prince, a revered Indigenous veteran, this indoor facility combines functionality with a warm, community-focused atmosphere, making it a cherished destination for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

The pool itself, while slightly dated in design, is meticulously maintained and consistently clean, providing a reliable space for public swims, lap swimming, and fitness programs.

However, increasing the frequency of cleaning could further elevate the experience, ensuring the pool remains pristine during peak usage.

The absence of a hot tub or sauna is noticeable, and adding these amenities would enhance the facility’s appeal, particularly for those seeking relaxation or therapeutic options post-swim.

What truly sets this facility apart is its exceptional staff.

The lifeguards and team members are professional, approachable, and attentive, striking a perfect balance of assertiveness and kindness to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.

Their presence fosters a sense of security and community, making every visit enjoyable.

Accessibility is a highlight here.

The pool features a ramp that ensures ease of access for wheelchair users, and the handicap/accessible bathrooms are exemplary, spacious, private, and impeccably clean.

These accommodations make the facility a standout for individuals with mobility challenges.

Seniors, in particular, benefit from tailored offerings like aqua fitness classes, gentle movement programs, and the innovative Grandma and Grandpa Swim Program, organized by the North Centennial Seniors Association (#NCSA).

These initiatives, alongside social events like bingo and potlucks, create a vibrant, intergenerational community space that caters thoughtfully to older adults.

The weight room, while functional for basic workouts, is somewhat limited in space and equipment. For casual users, it suffices, but those focused on strength training might find it lacking.

Expanding the gym area or updating the equipment would make the facility more versatile for fitness enthusiasts.

To elevate the “experience”, I suggest more frequent pool cleaning to maintain its pristine condition and the addition of a hot tub or sauna to enhance relaxation and therapeutic offerings. Expanding the weight room would also broaden the facility’s appeal for fitness-focused visitors.

Overall, Sergeant Tommy Prince Place Pool is a community treasure, particularly for seniors and those with accessibility needs. Its blend of inclusive design, dedicated staff, and diverse programming makes it a welcoming haven for all. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a safe, engaging, and accessible aquatic experience.

My niece attends swimming classes at this facility, and I must commend the dedicated instructors for their commitment to teaching. The facilities are adequate, but I do have a minor qualm about the strong smell of swimming pool chemicals lingering in the air. Despite this, the instructors' professionalism and the overall functionality of the facility make it a worthwhile place for my niece's swimming lessons.

Monday, Nov 4th, im permanently disabled they had so many handy cap kids in the pool and a elderly pool classes blocking every ladder, even the ramp. I was trying to get back to my wheel chair to go up the ramp after dodging the hole pool holding one leg. I had to sit down in the very opposite corner on the stairs when someone finally moved, then a worker, it's not the handy cap people there swimming!!!! it's the ignorant workers!!!!!!! he stepped my on dead leg hole huge pool u needed to come and stand on my leg with crps in the very corner. I deal with enuff pain and struggling!!!!! why I come exercise in your pool. The lady started defending her workers, saying there with disabled people, I'm disabled permanently, it is not an excuse to be ignorant!!!!! and step on someone 🙄 you were already causing a safety hazard blocking every ladder the ramp in the pool! I shoulda turnd around, but I thought we could share the pool, but the staff with the classes walk into people, cut people off there in space land! they don't care they own the place. There was no reason to come to the corner of the pool ignorant people. You had to many people in your pool blocking all ur ladders and way out. Your staff should not let people in when u have 3 classes going on in the pool spread out blocking all exit from the pool even deep end u had a guy swimming laps right infront of the ladders back an forth. From ur classes. Changed your handy capp! Bathroom to a universal bathroom so everyone takes there family's in there when I need the handy cap accessibility with chairs an showers can't even go there you ruined it when u changed that sign

The pool is unsafe. I had things taken from my locker with out the lock being unlocked. When I tried to talk to staff they would not even tell me their name as I was talking to them. They also started acting very shady and got very nervous. Got scared when I said I will call the police. Will never go back. Would give -10 stars if I could.
