My partner and I went to Spencer's Island for a couple of nights and stayed here for both. We had a hard time finding accommodation in the area and we weren't sure what to expect. We were so pleasantly surprised! Margaret has created such warm and homey place and we so enjoyed her company while we stayed there. She is also an incredible cook... by far the best waffles I have ever had. We basically gave her the reigns to plan our entire trip as she seemed to have such an intimate knowledge of the area. We were really glad we did. She recommended just enough to keep us going for the couple of days that we were there, but not so much that it was hard to fit everything in. Highlights were hiking in the national park and a geology tour of Joggins cliffs. The accommodation itself is fairly basic but it has WiFi and a great claw foot bath. Would definitely recommend this place!

We stayed two nights at this charming B&B, while exploring Advocate and Parrsboro. It could not have been a better experience! Margaret was lovely--so accommodating and so helpful, sharing tips about the area and Nova Scotia in general. Rooms were great--fantastic windows and sunrises! Food was amazing--the waffles and the quiche were to-die-for! Absolutely recommend and hope we get the chance to stay here again some time.

We stayed only one night at Spencer Island B&B. To be fair, there is not a lot to do that would take more than one night. We stopped at five islands park on the way from Halifax, and enjoyed the lovely drive that brought us down the hill to the B&B. It's less than a minute's walk to the beach and lighthouse. Margaret had recommended a stop at Masstown Market on the way over, which we did, and also recommended a place for dinner in Advocate Harbor, Hoch we also did. ||||The next morning the spectacular sunrise woke us and each of us crept downstairs barefoot, camera in hand, to photograph it...and we each ran into the others, laughing in our pajamas in the yard, trying to catch the sunrise against the waves and the lighthouse without waking the others. |||| Margaret fortified us for he next day's hiking and exploring before we were off with our lovely memories.

My wife and I stayed at this B&B for two nights to celebrate our anniversary and wanted to stay in a part of Nova Scotia we'd not yet been to (and also to do a day hike of Cape Chignecto which is very close to this B&B). First of all, I have to tell you about Margaret who is the fantastic owner! She knew so much about the area and provided a number of useful tips for hiking, where to eat, and local attractions. She is so friendly and you can tell she has a passion for hospitality! Make sure to ask her about the history of the ship captain who originally owned the house - fascinating nautical history to say the least!! ||||I also have to take a moment to mention her breakfast-cooking abilities - I don't think I've had better breakfast at a B&B or really anywhere in recent memory! Lemon and blueberry waffles with local maple syrup and local smoked bacon? Or how about homemade bacon and mushroom quiche with roasted potatoes? If those sound good, I guarantee they taste even better. By far the best waffles I've ever had and the bacon had incredible flavor with subtle smokiness. Oh and I don't really drink coffee but I had some and she makes it in a French Press - it was delicious!||||The house itself is lovely - the bedrooms and living/dining/kitchen all very much have a period feel to them. We were told that all furniture in the house is original and I certainly believe it when you look at the details and craftsmanship. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms so if the place is full, you don't have to worry about overcrowding of washroom (although only one has a shower, and the other has a claw-foot tub). Free wi-fi is included and I found it to have good reception upstairs or down, though it seemed to not work past 9 or 10 at night. Should also note that there are no TVs, but there are plenty of books to read, as well as cards and card/board games (we had alot of fun playing Scrabble in the parolor - very cool!). All in all, was a nice break from usual dependence on technology for entertainment 🙂 ||||The property is located just up the road from a huge stone beach which was great to walk along and see the drastic change in shoreline due to the Fundy tides depending on the time of day! There is also the Beach Cafe just down the road so if you don't want to drive somewhere to eat, it's ideal (and the food there was exceptionally good - I recommend the lobster roll!). Couple more things to note: Bring cash as she (understandably) isn't set up for debit/credit card, however if you forget then you can pay at the Wild Carraway which is only a 10 min drive away (Margaret's niece is the owner I believe). Two other ladies were staying there our second night and had a puppy with them so the B&B is also pet friendly, but I'd of course confirm with Margaret before going 🙂 ||||I'll sum this up (finally!) by saying we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the people in Spencer's Island (and the extended area) are so friendly and welcoming, by day two I caught myself waving back at fellow motorists as they drove by! Thanks again Margaret - definitely highly recommended!!

This quaint old home was wonderful. The rooms were very clean and comfy. Two bathrooms for the guests made sure one was always free. Margaret the hostess made us feel very welcome and had lots of suggestions for things to do and see in the area. The inn is located on a fairly steep hill/road with a rock beach at the bottom. Excellent for a walk or swim. Loved our night away exploring out of the way shoreline of NS.

We stayed here while our adult children were in a cottage at Old Shipyards Beach. It is a lovely, very old house, originally owned by Captain Bigelow, captain of the Mary Celeste. Full of history which Margaret related to us. Margaret is a wonderful hostess, a great cook and a super interesting person. Looking forward to another visit next year.

My spouse and I arrived on a foggy afternoon in the sleepy village of Spencer's Island and to the quaint Victorian B&B there. We had read the Canada B&B description; however, we were greatly disappointed in the B&B.||||There are three rooms with full to queen beds and private bath and shower rooms. These are not en suite, so you have to share with the potential five other guests. ||||The rooms are decorated with true Victorian furniture; however, they are worn, creaky, and the rooms themselves needed a good scrub. Also the rooms need the wall coverings updated (wallpaper was bubbling off the walls), the ceilings repainted, and the floors cleaned well/repainted. ||||We were also there on a rainy night, so it was incredibly humid and hot in the rooms. All the guests ended up keeping their bedroom doors open for ventilation, so no privacy unless you wanted to sweat.||||We also arrived on the only days Wild Caraway (a top Canadian restaurant) was open, so we were a little hard pressed for food options. We ended up driving into Parrsboro (45 min away), but that was frustrating since we were only passing through and going for dinner and coming backed wasted drive time.||||In addition, the description said there was wi-fi and we could not pick any up. This could be due to the storm, but we still didn't have any in the morning either.||||Margaret the owner was incredibly knowledgable of the area and were to go for food and other tourists highlights. Her food was delightful as well. ||||Our experience here was not amazing and a true disappointment from what we were expecting.

We stayed here because we we had an early morning kayaking trip at the Bay of Fundi the next day. Margaret is so sweet and told us about the history of the area and the house. It was very cozy. The only downside is that there is not much to do in the area, it's great for an over night to get you along to where you're going.
