We hadn’t heard about this place before and just stopped by while passing through Sylvan Lake. It’s a small Vietnamese restaurant with a simple, homey feel. We ordered the seafood noodle soup — it was delicious, full of flavor, and very reasonably priced. A nice little spot for a quick, tasty meal. Worth checking out if you’re in the area!

Spinnaker's Cafe, nestled in the heart of Sylvan Lake, presents a charming setting that blends a welcoming ambiance with a diverse menu. My recent visit to this Vietnamese eatery was marked by a mix of positive and not-so-positive experiences.

Let's start with the positives. The service at Spinnaker's Cafe was commendable; the staff was attentive, friendly, and efficient. The location itself is a gem, contributing to a pleasant dining atmosphere. Despite the relatively small space, the restaurant manages to offer an extensive array of menu options, catering to various tastes.

However, the culinary experience didn't quite meet expectations. I opted for the squid fry, hoping for a burst of freshness, but it fell short. The dish carried a hint of a commercial frozen taste, leaving me longing for the vibrancy that comes with freshly prepared ingredients. The special fried rice, another choice from the menu, didn't fare well either. It bore the unmistakable taste of age, as if it had been prepared earlier and left to linger.

While the food didn't leave a lasting impression, I believe Spinnaker's Cafe could be worth a try for those enticed by the diverse menu. The inviting atmosphere and attentive service add to its appeal. However, based on my experience, I might not be inclined to make a return visit. Perhaps it's a place worth exploring once, but I'll remain hesitant about repeating the experience.

In conclusion, Spinnaker's Cafe offers more than just a meal; it provides an ambiance and service that elevate the dining experience. Yet, the inconsistency in the quality of the dishes suggests room for improvement, especially for those with discerning palates seeking a more refined culinary adventure.

Just passing through town and wanted lunch....while this place is a little off the SL strip, I has probably the best Vietnamese food I have had in Alberta. Highly recommended.

The food was good, not the bubble tea. (Some customers may like them but not for us).

Ordered the Vietnamese coffee with sweetened condensed milk and ice. Got it without ice. Dissapointed that it is from a powder mix and not served using the traditional coffee brewer. Our group of four also had the Deep Fried Squid Rings, House Special Combinaton Beef and Rice Noodle in Soup and Grilled Lemon Grass Pork & Spring Roll with Vermicelli which were served hot. Cafe is very quiet, no music was broadcasted. The restaurant had lots of seating left on a Saturday afternoon, thus our conversations were quiet to keep the vibe. Free parking at the front.

Not busy the day we stopped by and I was craving pho for days! The appy (calamari) was okay and fair sharing for two people. But the vermicelli bowl and pho? AMAZING, they may look just like any other pho places but these bowls were packed with flavor! Such an affordable price too for these portions!

Ended the trip with Vietnamese iced coffee (with condensed milk) and we liked it alot! The coffee flavor didn’t seem to drown with sweetness of the milk, no wonder its a Viet staple. They also offer Viet subs, which we hope to try on our next trip.

The owner was very nice, this was during the stage 2 so we had masks and social distancing still that time. It didn’t stop them to provide great customer service.

Supporting AAPI community. Will come back again!
