While there were a few redeeming qualities, the overall experience was mediocre.

The interior was a highlight—clean, with a cozy cabin-lodge vibe that fit perfectly with the Banff setting. It created a warm and inviting atmosphere, which I appreciated.

Unfortunately, the menu was quite simplistic, and several items were either sold out or unavailable. This was frustrating, especially since no replacement options or suggestions were offered. To make matters worse, the hummus I ordered didn’t taste great—it was incredibly dry and lacked the smooth texture or flavor you’d expect.

Service was another area where Sudden Sally fell short. The staff were a little rough around the edges, lacking the attentiveness and personality that can make or break a dining experience. While they did the basics, the overall vibe from the waitstaff felt distant and unengaged, which left me feeling more like a transaction than a guest.

In summary, Sudden Sally has potential but struggles with some key areas, including service, menu flexibility, and food quality. It might be worth a visit for the atmosphere, but I wouldn’t go back expecting anything more than average.

We enjoy our breakfast here. Amazing atmosphere and service. The orange juice was fresh and delicious. The potatoes were cooked to perfection, the guacamole tasty and fresh. We savoured every single dish. I will visit them for sure. Highly recommended. A big thank you to Jan, we had a great time. Thank you for letting us stayed a bit longer.

Wir waren während unseres Aufenthalts im Hotel zum Abendessen im Restaurant und waren absolut begeistert. Das Essen war hervorragend – die Speisen wurden frisch zubereitet und waren geschmacklich ein Genuss. Man spürt hier die Liebe zum Detail und die hohe Qualität der Küche.
Der Service war ebenso erstklassig. Das Personal war freundlich, aufmerksam und immer zur Stelle, um uns einen angenehmen Abend zu bereiten. Wir fühlten uns rundum gut versorgt, ohne dass es aufdringlich wirkte.
Das Ambiente des Restaurants ist sehr ansprechend. Die stilvolle Einrichtung und die gemütliche Atmosphäre machten den Abend zu einem rundum gelungenen Erlebnis. Wir haben unseren Abend in vollen Zügen genossen und können das Restaurant jedem wärmstens empfehlen, der im Hotel übernachtet.

We stayed in the Hotel Canoe and so we visited Sudden Sally quite often, actually twice a day. Every morning, we had a delicious breakfast and in the afternoon, half priced happy hour drinks. Never missed it. Besides how much we enjoyed this restaurant and bar, we were happy to see how much the local residents like it too! That is always a sign of excellence! The staff were probably the best part. They were very attentive and loved to talk to us. They gave us perfect advice for our sight seeing and hiking which made for a very memorable trip. This is our last morning here and we are definitely going to have breakfast (and a latte) at Sudden Sally before we leave!

Went here for both breakfast and dinner. I think the price and value/quality of the food it was worth it especially considering there are other restaurants that are about $30+/person. Their focaccia bread is delicious and very fresh! Decor is modern and chic. Sadly we didn't get to try their pastries, but their main dishes are definitely worth trying out. I would want to come back again next time visiting Banff. They also have a cafe location in downtown Banff area.

We ate at Sudden Sally two nights and days while staying in Banff.
We ate outside 1st night beautiful weather. 2nd night was rainy and cool, so ate inside by the fire.
The entire staff from top to bottom made us feel at home. Always stopping just to say hello or having wonderful conversations. Our favorite server is Hope. She has such a good attitude and can make anyone feel welcomed. She also reminded us so much in looks and great attitude of our niece Joni. Bye Hope...
The food each setting was awesome and high quality. Very reasonably priced.
We had the roasted half chicken was tender and juicy and the juice very flavorful, garlic mashed potatoes were awesome! We shared the antipasto platter. Second night we both had the pan seared salmon...I highly recommend this dish. Excellent from the cook, flavor and portion size.
Breakfasts were top knotch- omelet, classic 2 egg breakfast x 2, breakfast sandwich
Please give Sudden Sally a try, you won't be sorry.

Really tasty and filling food. Good value for money with the portion sizes. we came back and ate here twice it was so good. Nice attentive staff. coffee is very good and they have a great selection of baked goods and take away sandwiches

This is now our favourite place for breakfast. We both got the eggs benedict. One with the fennel sausage (pictured) party and one with back bacon. They come with potatoes that are smashed and crispy. The meal was hot and flavourful. We were able to sit right by the fire place and it was so cozy. Our server was the right amount of attentive and pleasant. We'll be back. Thanks so much!
