Beautiful older hotel, love the character. Only speaking to staying in the hotel. The rooms were not good, there were stains on the floors, water stains on the ceiling. Roof spackle had crumbled away at one juncture at the foot of our bed. The bathroom was the worst part, it had a terrible smell if you forgot to leave the fan on, the jacuzzi tub has not been cleaned properly as there were silver fish coming out of the drain which indicates a poorly cleaned environment. The grout between the tiles within the bathroom were dirty %80 of the space expect the main mopped areas were clean. When I brought this up at the end of our stay I was given a whopping $50.00 single credit on a $300.00 room and zero care was given to address the hygiene concerns.

Will never stay here again and would never recommend.

I had to make an emergency trip down to the vet for my dog from comox valley. Her life is on the line on an hour by hour basis.
I spent the first night at the grand hotel and really appreciated the hospitality and warmth from the front desk at night and the server at breakfast. It was lovely.
On the other hand, The manager Dilan was very rude and his lack of compassion really changed my experience. I told him I would not know until later this evening whether I would need a room. He became quite abrupt and said it’s a simple yes or no question.

When my best friends life is on the line, and the money is pouring out, no. it is not a simple yes or no question. I get it, this is a business. Does not mean you can still have love and compassion for others. I would not stay here again nor recommend this establishment to anyone as I can only imagine how he treats his staff.

The Grand Hotel hosted our family for our patriarch’s 100th birthday. The hotel is beautifully ornate, with a fully stocked whiskey bar, dining room, and garden. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly yet professional, and I am still dreaming about my three-course dinner! Thank you for the amazing stay, we hope to be back one day!

Super cool spot. Incredible whisky selection. Had tea for a wedding and service was great. The only down side is the place is becoming dated. Weird decoration choices with whisky boxes on the walls in bathrooms and quirky things like that. But other than that I will be back for some whisky

My husband and I were there for a week. I loved the quirkiness of the place. Thinking it must be old I asked at the desk, it is only 23 years old. The whiskey bar is like sitting in a bar in Casablanca. I would definitely stay again. Enjoy.

A colleague of mine strongly recommended the Grand Hotel and I was extremely grateful that she did.
What a great experience. Quiet , clean and loved the amenities. Peppermint shampoo !!
I had dinner there as well and it was fabulous. The service was impeccable.
As a regular visitor to Nanaimo , I think I will call The Grand my home away from home, for my business.
It has a certain charm from the moment that you walk in.

The beds in the room I was in where the worst I've seen in a long long time. I don't think I've slept in a bed that soft ever. I would completely recommend changing that out.lady at the counter really screwed up our check in by sending us to a room with a single Queen when I had already booked two Queens. Had to go all the way back down on the really slow elevator and then she gave me keys to somebody else's room instead of the one that she booked me into. No apology which I thought was pretty unprofessional. Potential is there to make this a better place but I don't think I would go back

The room is badly in need of renovations because the very old carpeted floor is uneven and bumpy. There is a smell in the room where I had to open the window to air.The bathtub hot water is just barely warm. A report to the receptionist on my 3rd evening.. who suggested I change my room. When I checked on the first day, the reception offered a room upgrade which I rejected after I went to the room because it was very dark and gave an uneasy feeling.This is probably the worst hotel on this trip in Canada where I have been for last one month.
