Five of us went for a casual family dinner at this long-established restaurant. The food met expectations for pub fare in St. John's - deep fried, heavily battered and seasoned onion rings, shaved beef filled jumbo Yorkshire pudding, NL savoury-seasoned dressing stuffed in a chicken breast, and the always delicious hot turkey sandwich - everything generously shrouded in dark brown gravy. Cubed carrots and parsnips on the side and fries all around. The outlier among us chose cod au gratin with a fluffy white roll. Everyone enjoyed their supper. The gentlemen in the group gave high praise to the Yorkshire pudding and shaved beef, heroically resisting the urge to lick their plates clean. Bravo boys!

Service was friendly, although not overly quick. It's a pub after all. Give it a try. There's lots to choose from on the usual menu. During the Canada Games the menu is truncated, but still many choices.

Our room (the Sweeney Suite) was absolutely amazing! It feels like an apartment, with both an amazing tub and bed.

We stopped at the pub and the service was great, even though it was busy. The food (especially the fish and chips) was absolutely delicious. Some of the best I've had. Great job!

p.s. dressing goes on the gravy on the chips.

Not what I was expecting after all the good things I've heard about the food. I've only had the hungry person breakfast a few times, and it's far from special. It was also quite pricey for the portion size and quality. After taxes and tip, it's about $30. If the portion was a proper "hungry person" size and the overall quality was better, I wouldn't complain, but they were even cheap with the home fries! Like come on, they are potatoes, load them up! And the home fries were pretty bad. It should be the easiest part of the meal to get right, how does one screw up home fries? They definitely weren't fresh out of the fryer. They tasted old like they were sitting around all day or were chilled in the fridge and were microwaved to heat up and tasted like the oil they were originally fried in was old. Even the toast seemed old, soggy inside, stale crust. The sausage and ham also seemed like they were sitting around for hours, and were cold but were still edible. The bacon was also cold and undercooked, didn't eat thet. The only freshly cooked hot part of the meal was the eggs and they were good. I've tried it a few times, hoping it would be better and that the previous time was just an off day, but that wasn't the case. Maybe it would be better in the morning, but I went in the late afternoon. I assume "all day breakfast" means they are cooking it all day, not just warming up leftovers from the morning, in the afternoon. It's worth $9.99+ max, not $30. I won't be returning for breakfast. But might try something else one day.

Clean room, parking is included in the price which is a plus. It’s a simple inn but has everything that you need, 6 min drive from downtown. Friendly staff and good location.
My only complain is that the hall smells like cigarette die the carpet and the AC on the room is very noisy.
For the location and price is worth it.

The staff were amazing and friendly. The rooms were clean. They were, however, old. The AC didn't really work, so it was so hot. Very uncomfortable. It also has an old smell, or maybe it was a smoke smell. It was ok but would not return.

Decent rooms, though the shower didn't drain. The service was friendly, but the breakfast was bad. They 3 star hotel. I agree.
