What an amazing place! Every once in a while you find a spot that is off the beaten track, not designed to cater to tourists, a neighborhood hangout that is absolutely steeped in the character of the neighborhood in which it is located. The minute I walked in the door, I knew I had been pegged as a stranger. Even so, I was treated with courtesy, the waitress was easy to converse with and so completely comfortable in her role that I felt at ease immediately, even with her assessment of me. This is real Nanaimo. Not a place for a tourist but definitely a place for a traveller. Wonderful, real people.

This is 5 stars for an old pub and old feel. Lots of beers on tap, food looked like cozy pub food, old building around for .. forever. Servers were friendly, and my pint was great value! Like? Under 6$?! Honestly it's an old pub, so if you like visiting nostalgic and pub feels, this is your spot.

The Oxy Pub (Occidental Pub) and hotel was built in 1886 and has been a part of Nanaimo forever. It has been reformed many times and looks quite nice at present. In my opinion, it caters mostly to the local hard working blue collar citizens and the beer and menu are very reasonably priced but not the best. They have big TVs for sports and a corner with pool tables. It has a few parking spots and is close to a beer and wine. I mostly come here for an afternoon pint and worry about a late Friday night here. It's also easy walking distance to downtown.

This is what I think a traditional pub looks like. Nice atmosphere, attentive and caring staff, and today's Steak-Sandwich special was perfect. Great value for the price! Will come back for other menu items.

6 of us went on a Thursday afternoon. We all got sick had different beers and wings. Disappointed 😞 we had never been before and I guess we won't be back. Not very clean.

Roast beef dinner for $20 and is amazing. Service is exceptional as well.
