I ordered coffee and an "English muffin sausage and egg" here. Overall, it was good and tasty. The coffee wasn't that uncommon to match the name of the place and poster near the entrance, but it was definitely quite good for sitting here. There is no point in going here on strict purpose, but if you are on your way somewhere and are looking for an inexpensive place to have a snack, drink coffee or eat ice cream at reasonable prices, this is a very good choice.

I ordered a cortado which is supposed to be equal parts espresso (double) and steamed milk making for a delightfully potent, small espresso drink. What I got was a bigger beverage that tasted weak and watery, and the coffee itself came across as very burnt but not flavourful. It was really disappointing. I'm sad to say this was the worst cortado I've ever had. The baked goods looked fine but there was nothing gluten-free available.

The service was acceptable.

This cafe with its outdoor seating is in a beautiful 5-star location, the Halifax Public Gardens. That said, the cafe interior used to be more uplifted and included seating but the space currently looks shabby and sort of cluttered, especially the island/trash area, and there appears to be no indoor seating. Could definitely benefit from an uplift.

It was sad to see this cafe in its current state of decline both in terms of product quality and physical environment. I don't expect to return there unless I hear there have been meaningful changes.

I took my teenagers here for ice cream and was not disappointed. They had a decent selection and the portions were a good size. Prices were also reasonable. They have an excellent selection of I b of delectable baked goods and the coffee is quite good. If I were to find fault it would be the selection of cold drinks available.

Shout out to the excellent customer service by the women behind the counter that day (Saturday July 12). They were friendly, efficient and professional.

The Uncommon Grounds is a cute little white building located right in the middle of the public gardens. It's open almost every day, and sells a variety of delicious baked goods. It wasn't busy or crowded when I visited too. It's clean, organized, and information about their baked goods is displayed. Uncommon grounds is a good place to visit whenever you're in the public gardens.

This location is right in the middle of the Public Gardens, so if you visit there, you must try Uncommon Grounds. We had the iced matcha, and it tasted even better than Starbucks coffee.

I highly recommend it.

I’ve been a regular at Uncommon Grounds, but this time, had a disappointing experience at the Spring Garden Road location. I carried in my folded electric scooter (not ridden inside, folded & carried by hand), just to grab coffee with a friend. About an hour in, a uniformed security guard came to our table and rudely asked me to leave, saying I had been “sitting with it too long with the scooter.” It was folded, not in the way, and there was no sign or clear policy stating scooters weren’t allowed.

I felt embarrassed and uncomfortable. Honestly, if I had responded to his tone, it could have turned into an unnecessary scene. It left me wondering, would a stroller or large bag be treated the same way?

It’s disappointing to be treated this way as a paying customer. A little courtesy and clear communication could have made all the difference.
