It's student decor, but very clean. Cleanliness is important to me, decor not so much. I had the apartment to myself which was a plus, so it was very quiet, though it would not be a problem to share it. This will be my go to place when I am visiting family while the hostel is open. Next time I come I would bring a fan. I hit a heat wave and the room was very hot. Staff was very helpful and friendly. If you are looking for a cheap way to travel I would definitely recommend University of Guelph hostel. If you want more luxury and your own bathroom, well this is not the place.

Those who oversee and help the program do a relatively good job, its clear the university itself needs to improve.

The rooms literally resemble pictures of Scandinavian prisons on google. Institutional not a living space. Annoyingly rigid and creaky beds. Really bad ventilation. Seemingly inadequate window egress even. Windows are bolted in place. Unnecessarily loud appliances. Abysmal wifi situation. Convoluted system and weak connection. Like it's back in 2003. Ironically had to wait 10 minutes just to post this. Mid level hotels being outrageously 200+ a night currently doesn't justify hostel rates around 100ish. Interior cramped so an entire "townhouse" (basic dorm gussied up to resemble one from the outside) doesn't really make having it all to yourself much of a bonus. Then stuff like austere 75$ key replacement penalties. Yeesh. Overall the people are hospitable while the place is not. The campus being nice doesn't help too much given everything.

Hopefully the university improves these things while letting the student housing staff take a more active role. They definitely deserve it on multiple levels. Disappointing that students and guests have to endure stuff like this in 2023.

I stayed in a dorm room, and actually felt quite unsafe. I'm sure it's fine during the school year, or with a group of people, but as a single woman it was quite uncomfortable... You walk around a sketchy dark stairwell to this locked suite, and then you have a locked room within the suite. Which would be fine, but then it's you sharing a locked suite with a complete stranger (in my case there was only one other person who I never saw but heard in the room next to mine), and it's not divided by gender or anything. Bathrooms are shared, they provide toilet paper but not handsoap!? The bed has all the fine qualities you would expect in an ironing board, and was provided with sheets and an incredibly thin blanket, which was not suitable for early May. Calling this a hostel is a complete mis-representation as there's no common room, anywhere to get food, etc... I also couldn't get on the wifi the whole time I was there. I've honestly felt safer and more comfortable staying in dorm rooms in real hostels for less money. Oh yeah, and it's a bit of a hike from main campus and not totally easy to find if you're coming by public transport, and kind of a sketchy walk in the evening when there's no one around. Anyway, could be a good deal if you're a group and able to bring everything you need by car... for a single traveler who's not able to bring blankets and whatnot, I'd go the Air BnB route for safety and comfort.

The bed was like sleeping on cement. The photo on the website is misleading as the occupant of the room had added a mattress topper to the bed. The mattress in the room is made of very high density foam which does not give at all. There was no microwave available to heat food, and no dishes or utensils. This was also not made clear on the website. I booked for 6 nights and left after 4 because I was only getting about 3-4 hours of sleep each night and was developing back pain. Food was difficult to access. The student union is about 1/4-1/2 mile away and they close at 4 pm, so there is no option for dinner. Breakfast was available, but there were not many options. Bus service was available, but involved a long walk to get to it. This may be OK for young singles, but it is definitely not a good accommodation for senior citizens.

It's a university, so expect student accommodation. There are townhouses to rent and also the actual student rooms within a suite of 5 rooms. Stayed in one of the rooms that was in a suite - there is a lounge and kitchen area (supply your own crockery, vittels etc) that is communal and your own private room, consisting of single bed, desk, wardrobe, bookshelf and chest of drawers. Toilet and bath/shower are communal. A cleaner comes in daily to service the communal areas. Meals can be purchased from the excellent Centre 6 food court, which has a massive variety, or you can make your own in your kitchen. You are allowed into the Arboretum, which has some excellent walks (beware, it is mosquito central at the moment) and they have a 24 hour launderette, which provides washing and drying facilities for $2 each. The buses into town and further out run every half hour. Campus police are available 24/7 and the reception desk is manned 24/7 with such wonderfully pleasant people. For a chance to live the student life in a safe environment, this should be your number one choice.

Directly next to the university for easy access. Beds are unfortunately not very comfortable. Rooms are well cleaned. Garbage and recycling is taken out by staff. Nearest grocery stores are 15-25 minute walk away. Friendly and responsive staff.

Check in was very quick and easy. Everything is neat and clean. But there is no AC in the summer so it gets extremely hot. It is on Guelph campus so all locations on campus take <10min to walk to.

I don't want to complain, but honestly, this is not worth staying here. Better to find an apartment elsewhere. Didn't enjoy the experience. Main Rooms were not always cleaned, nor were bathrooms, and garbage wasn't picked up.
